An Audience with the Tutti Frutti cast

Recently the GGS Magazine group interviewed several cast members of the up-coming school production, 'Tutti Frutti'.

What's the storyline of the musical?
-It's about an early rock'n'roll band set in Glasgow in the 1950s. The band are due to do an anniversary tour when their singer dies.

Who are the main characters?
- Suzie, Danny, Vincent and Mr Cloherty.

Who do you like best out of all the characters?
- Personally, I like Danny the best.

What big scenes are there?
- Oh, lots: a car crashes and explodes, there's a dramatic romance, and Vincent discovers that he's got a daughter...

What do you think is the best moment?
- The fire scene.

Why do you think it is important for S.5 and S.6s to put on a play?
- Well, we think it's important because it's not been done for a long time. Previous shows have been 'Oliver', 'Our House', 'Out of our Minds' and 'A Christmas Carol'.

How do you feel about it?
- Very excited - we think it'll be fun.

When is it being performed?
Sometime in March 2011.

Who's in charge?
Miss Galloway.

By Bryce, Jared, Hannah and Christa, with thanks to cast members Daniel and Connor.

Lang may yer lum reek: Robert Burns

By Rachel Crane

Who was he?
Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796) was a Scottish poet. He is widely regarded as Scotland’s national poet but is also celebrated over seas. Many of his pieces were in the Scot’s dialect.

Why is he important to Scotland?
I for one believe that Burns is the Scottish equivalent to Shakespeare. In 2009 he was voted Greatest Scot through a vote run by STV.

Order of the supper

Start of the evening

Guests gather and mix as in any informal party.

Host's welcoming speech

The host says a few words welcoming everyone to the supper and perhaps stating the reason for it. The event is declared open.
All of the guests are seated and grace is said, usually using the Selkirk Grace. The Selkirk Grace is a well-known thanksgiving said before meals, using the Lowland Scots language.
The supper then starts with the soup course. Normally a Scottish soup such as Scotch Broth or Potato Soup
Addressing the haggis.
Everyone stands as the main course is brought in. This is always a haggis on a large dish. It is usually brought in by the cook, generally while a piper plays bagpipes and leads the way to the host's table, where the haggis is laid down. The host, or perhaps a guest with a talent, then recites the Address to a Haggis.
What do they eat?
Haggis neaps and tatties is the traditional meal on burns night.
Interesting facts about haggis.
Haggis is very basically sheep guts, oatmeal and stock cooked in a sheep’s stomach.

It’s going to be chilly this week! With more snow due and temperatures dropping to -8 on Friday night. The snow has already had an impact on S1 to S3 when the Christmas disco was cancelled for Thursday the 16th.

Film Review
By Rachel C.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (HP7) is one of the best movies I have ever seen EVER! You feel like the characters are lifelong friends and you get drawn into the story. You become completely unaware of your surroundings.
Harry knows he has to stop Voldemort, alone if he must, and he doesn’t want anyone to die for him or put their lives in danger for him. Does he realise how much he needs his friends? Ron is Harry’s best mate but is deeply in love with Hermione but he doesn’t want to admit it. He becomes increasingly jealous of Harry. Will his friendship end in a fight? Hermione is sensible and level headed on all occasions; she is the brains behind the mission but refuses to accept anything that isn’t logically correct. Could this be her downfall?
There’s kissing, jokes, blood, and magic all crammed into 146 minutes. Harry, Ron and Hermione have run away from school to hunt down Lord Voldemort. And they run into a lot of trouble along the way.
One of my favourite scenes is Harry making seven replicas of himself so the ‘Death Eaters’, Voldemort’s supporters, will not know which Harry is the real one.

The plot starts with Lord Voldemort. He is unable to defeat Harry but does not understand why. Harry is about to turn seventeen and when he does he will not be protected. He will also be able to perform magic out with school. He has decided to hunt down Voldemort and destroy the Horcruxes Voldemort has made. Horcruxes are objects which have a part of a person’s soul hidden in them, this means should a person be killed he/she will not die. Voldemort made seven Horcruxes.
Harry has his friends, Ron, Hermione, Luna and (towards the end of the film) Dobby, the house elf, to help him on his mission. These are dark times in Harry’s world. Doubt and secrecy are lurking behind every corner. That and Harry, Ron and Hermione’s own disagreements make the film very dark and serious. Those who support Harry and believe that he is Voldemort’s downfall have to be very careful about expressing their beliefs.
The Deathly Hallows come into the story quite unexpectedly. At first they seem not to be related to anything in the story. Voldemort does not know about the hallows but seeks one of them. Harry has to stop him.
The Film ends on a cliff-hanger to top all cliff-hangers, you won’t be able to wait seven months for the second half to come out!
